People around the world are using email. It has become a staple in our life. Hey if it was not for email then I would not being the work that I do. See I am Microsoft Trainer. As a trainer we do not really see the head hunters that send us on gigs. We talk to them on the phone and recognize their voice but to know what they look like. I don't think so. Well the contracts I recieve are through email. So, I thought there are some people out there that would probably like to know how to setup email on Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Don't worry you will not be tearing your hairout and will find that this is pretty easy to do. So, first let's go over some terms. Ok, I know that if you read my last article it was pretty deep. Well this one is going to light and fast.

POP3

Post Office Protocol 3 is the most widely used protocols when it comes to email. POP3 is used by most of your ISPs (Internet Service Providers). These include companies like AT & T, Road Runner, Comcast and others. But, what does POP3 do. Well it is our pickup service for email. When email is desposited on the email server the POP3 service delivers it to your email box.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is the basis of Email. Without SMTP then the mail would not flow. Just know it is like the mail man. It picks up the email and then hands it off to the mail server to be delivered.

There are some other terms that we can cover at another time. But I said that I would keep it light. So, let's get to the good stuff.

Step 1. On your Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine you need to locate the Windows Mail program. You can find this by typing Mail at the search prompt. You will see this in the graphic below.

Step 2. The First box you will see is the account name. This is the username that was supplied by your ISP. Just fill in this information and the password. Click on the box that say Setup Mail Manaully and Click the Next Button.

Step 3. On this screen you will notice that there is POP3. This is the default for the Windows Mail program. Some of the other options will be Exchange Server, IMAP and Web Mail. Now you will need to enter in the mail server. The mail server name will be something like mail. .com. You need to ask your ISP about this. Next it will ask you about the SMTP server this is usally the same accept for the port will be 25. That is the default port. POP3 uses port 110. Now you may have to use username and password to be able to send mail. Check with your ISP for the answer to this question.

Step 4. Click on the Finish Button and you are now finished. Go have a cup a coffee you are done.

hat I tried to show you is how easy it is to configure Windows Mail. Just think you did not even have to spend any money to order a training course. Oh, Wow that hurts. Well that is all for now. Thanks for reading and look for more fun filled computer tips from Idea Dudes. Bye Bye
